Can the Pendant AI Assistant Help in an Emergency?

The first thing I remember after breaking my knee in a soccer accident was someone asking, “How good is your insurance?” My immediate response after that was: “Somebody call 9-1-1! I need an ambulance!” The good man who asked me the insurance question knew better than I did, and he (and a few others) lifted me up and put me in the back of a pick-up truck. Was the ride to the emergency room bumpy and painful? Yes, it was. But in hindsight, it was a small price to pay to avoid spending thousands of dollars on an ambulance ride. 

I learned that day that insurance matters a ton when faced with an emergency. Your brain probably won’t naturally gravitate towards insurance in the heat of the moment, but if you have the wherewithal to recall, Pendant’s AI Assistant can really help out in moments of crisis.

Answers Wherever Your Employees Are

With the recently launched Pendant app, employees can pull up this H.R. guidance wherever they have a cell phone signal. In fact, a Pendant user could ask the A.I. Assistant for some guidance in emergencies too. Here's a conversation I had with the Pendant Assistant a few weeks ago from the Pendant app:

I feel like I should make a note here that in case of emergency, we absolutely recommend calling 9-1-1 before asking the Pendant Assistant for help. The Assistant can help with a lot of things, but it can’t perform CPR or drive an ambulance. 

Once the immediate danger is under control, a Pendant user can ask the AI Assistant questions like these:

  • "Is this specific hospital in-network for my plan?"
  • "What's my copay for urgent care vs. the emergency room?"
  • "Does my insurance cover X-rays for a potential sprain?"
  • "How do I find an in-network pediatrician for my sniffly kid right now?"

Getting easy answers to these questions makes a big difference when you’re in pain, or sleep deprived from a sick child. You can find out exactly what your insurance covers without having to dig through PDFs or old emails.

The main thesis of Pendant is that employees will feel more satisfied with their jobs if they actually use the benefits that already exist.
